Kenny turned the big 40 on March 19! He really wanted to go on a trip and so we did Vancouver, British Columbia, Squamish and Whistler up there in the mountains by Vancouver as well as Seattle, Portland (although we didn’t last long there!) and the Oregon Coast! It was a super fun trip although last minute McCormicks had sick kids and decided they shouldn’t come. Radley was supposed to come with them but since he was so miserable they figured they better not come with a sick baby. It was quite the bummer!
We started in Vancouver. It was a beautiful city! The Capilano Suspension bridges were really cool.
We also ate at the best restaurant I’ve ever been too called Pour House. Everything was so delicious and the atmosphere was awesome. I would go back just to eat there again. Actually, we ate really well the entire trip.
The next day we did the sea-to-sky drive up the mountain and it was incredible. When we got to Squamish we got out and hiked to some waterfalls and then took a gondola ride up the mountain. The views were amazing. Squamish was the most beautiful place I have ever been. It was a real life Frozen to me (like Arendelle would look like this haha). It was like Park City times ten. There was snow but not so much snow that it was all white. There was enough beautiful green showing too and blue lakes. The colors were beautiful. The weather was amazing. I loved this place so much!
That night we rode the train back to the United States and it was awful haha! We were excited at first. None of us had ever ridden a train like this before. Mike and Kenny caused some trouble when they switched seats around and gave us some good laughs at least. We ended up on the train for 6 hours, going 25 mph in Canada and interesting people got on at the stops. We were pretty relieved to get off in Seattle!
Seattle was fun. I had never been so I didn’t know what to expect. Apparently it’s not nearly as nice as it used to be. We did Pike’s Market, had some really good pizza, the Space Needle, the Friends Experience (Kenny is a huge Friends fan), Washington State University (we got some good scootering in there!) and found the stadiums (another thing we love to do on trips.) Late that night we drove down to Portland.
Portland was shocking. There was so much homelessness. Tents lined the streets everywhere. Downtown was even worse. Kenny wanted to go to Voodoo Doughnuts (I warned him they weren’t worth the hour long wait! I had done my research!) We had a very interesting hour waiting in line. After that, Erin and I were done with Portland. We had no desire to stay there the next day. We stayed the night but decided the next day we would go out and drive up the Oregon coast instead of staying around Portland.
Pip’s Donuts…
I am so glad we did the coast! It was beautiful and I had never seen rocky cliff beaches like that before! We did the Tillamook Factory and stopped in Astoria and found lots of places where Goonies was filmed. It rained that day-the first time on our whole trip which is surprising! That night we went back to Portland and had the best Thai food I’ve had at the cutest restaurant.
Last meal before we headed home was at a super delicious Thai place in Portland…
Kim came and stayed at my house with the kids while we were gone and my kids were soooo excited about it. They loved Kim and playing with Reef. Kim made a whole trip out of it and was here in Vegas for a few weeks so we got to see her lots. Mom and Dad also helped with kids and were over here a few times. They went to the Wetlands, got Twisted Sugar of course, went to the park, and they helped get my kids everywhere they had to be.
We came home to bday signs the kids had left out for Kenny.
While we were gone, Beau’s tournament team had a scrimmage at the Dollar Loan Center where the Silver Knight’s play! They’ve never played in a big arena like that and thought it was pretty cool. They played Noah’s team so they loved that they got to see him again.
Beau’s team won the Stanley Cup! They won the Championship game at the end of their 8 month league! We were so excited about it. This team has been so fun to watch and in part because of their awesome coaches. Beau and his team work so hard and put in lots of time so they deserved to win and this season after going undefeated they did it! It was an incredible game and so fun to watch them celebrate! When They were up 2-0 at the end of the game and when Beau saw there were about 7 seconds left he kept glancing up at the clock. At 1 second he threw his stick up in the air and jumped on his goalie and the whole team went crazy celebrating. It was the best!! We have loved this team- the kids, coaches, and families so much! The league is probably breaking up our team for spring season. The Minions have gone 36-1 over the past 2 seasons and people are mad/jealous haha. Luckily, our coach started a tournament team with most of these kids and a few others that he will do tournaments with so they can stay together.
Coach also asked Beau to be a captain. Coach put the A for Alternate Captain on his jersey for the finals game. Beau thought that was pretty cool.
The tournament team had their first tournament a week after they won the Stanley Cup and they won that tournament too! Not bad winning two championships within a week, huh?! Beau lives for this so it’s so fun to watch him.
The youth in our ward have been going on overnight backpacking trips to prepare for a big backpacking trip in June. Kayli and Kenny want on the first one and even though it was hard-Kayli did it! She was actually excited to go on the second one. Last minute they were short a woman leader and so I ended up going since everything worked out. Haley had Trey and Sami come stay with them and we ended up bringing Beau since he would love it anyway. I was a little worried about my knee because I haven’t done anything like that. We started at night and got down to the camp sight, ate, put of tents, had a devotional and went to bed. Kayli and I shared a tent and she taught me how to cook our food. The next morning we made our breakfasts and hiked down to the river and hot springs. There were so many rocks and climbing up and over rocks. The kids loved it! I did fine but I definitely treated myself to a nice big Twisted Sugar drink when I got home!
Mike and Kenny went to a Sacramento Kings Game in Sacramento.
Sami started soccer and she is so excited about it! She could not stand waiting for our first practice. Me and Lindsay are coaching the team and we have the cutest kids on our team! They have had one game so far and they all played so well. Sami is aggressive and not afraid of the ball. She might be a good little soccer player! She was so excited to have cousin Jake on the team and her school bestie, Finn, along with Audra of course!
Trey started soccer again too and his team does really well. They’ve been together for a few seasons now so they are fun to watch. He is also excelling at piano with Kathy and I love it. He’s also really excited to start GATE next year!
Kayli’s volleyball team has one more big tournament coming up at the end of the month. They are fun to watch too. She has improved so much and she is loving it. I’m excited to start playing with her more.
Cute little 80s day girl…
I can’t believe Sami is almost done with Kindergarten! I don’t want to be done with Kindergarten forever! She has learned so much this year and loves learning. She comes home and does her homework without being asked and she is now a little reader!
